Urban Design

Always in close contact with urban life, BoConcept develops and designs home furnishings according to the latest trends and lifestyles. The devotion to urban design doesn’t mean you have to live in the big city to fall in love with a piece of BoConcept furniture. Urban is a mindset. It’s about people who love design, modernity, energy and what is hip in all aspects of life.

BoConcept home furnishings are created for people who are conscious of design, of value for money, of the freedom to choose for themselves. BoConcept takes pride in achieving the best results for their customers, who are looking for creative ideas to solve their interior design challenges — whether it is to optimize space, create functionality or express their individuality.

Form Follows Function

Michael Graziano has seen too many kitchens that look beautiful but are a nightmare to cook in. That’s why Aladdin Remodelers subscribes to the design principle that form always follows function. “In our kitchens, everything looks great,” says Graziano, “but it works well first and looks good second.”

And that doesn’t just go for kitchens. The designers at Aladdin will create any functional room you need — bathroom, home office, laundry room, media center, bar and more. They listen carefully to what you plan to do with the room as well as how you want it to look. A fundamental understanding of what makes a space convenient and safe are then combined with a thorough familiarity with home appliances and a range of custom and standard cabinetry for a room that works.

Aladdin’s website includes a helpful kitchen planner and a step-by-step description of what happens when you remodel or add on a room, which takes much of the anxiety out of the process. So does Aladdin’s service. “Unlike a general contractor, we handle everything for you,” says Graziano. “If it’s ordinary, you don’t need us,” he adds. “But when you’re ready for something special, give us a call.”

Lighting the Way — With Outstanding Service

When Bay Shore Lighting and Home was named one of the top 50 creative retailers in the nation by the prestigious trade publication Home Accents Today in 2005, the honor was well-deserved peer recognition of the outstanding service this 62-year-old family-run business provides for its clientele.

“Lighting is not just about design; there’s a technical aspect that you really have to understand,” says Marilyn Schulman, the second generation of her family to own and operate Bay Shore Lighting and Home, which was founded by Harry Schulman in 1945. “We offer the ability to make a major job go very smoothly.”

Bay Shore Lighting and Home combs the major nationwide markets, such as Dallas, Texas, and High Point, North Carolina, for unusual, fashion-forward merchandise that’s not available anywhere else. In the store, outstanding technical expertise is provided by experienced salespeople who are all certified lighting consultants. You’ll also find many items that, in Marilyn’s words, “make a house a home,” including decorative accessories and objects, occasional furniture, wall décor, floral arrangements, tapestries, framed art, photographs and mirrors.

For an idea of the wide variety of merchandise available, visit their online catalog at www.bayshorelighting.com, which features 40,000 products for the home.

Where Quality and Value are Always in Style

Since 1946, when Jessy & Dudley Brauner opened for business on the Bowery in New York City, J+D Brauner has stood for solid quality and solid value in casual dining furniture. Though styles have changed in the ensuing 60 years, the guiding principles have remained the same.

The original collection featured the beauty and durability of natural maple and oak in a broad assortment of tables, carts and chopping blocks combined with chairs and stools to match. Dining sets were created that are still in use to this day.

When fashion demanded more options, J+D Brauner was one of the first shops to feature the Canadel Collection made exclusively from North American hardwoods. Canadel offers hundreds of combinations including solids, two-tones and distressed finishes. A wide selection of leg and chair styles, as well as coordinating cabinet pieces, allow the customer the broadest possible choice in customized dining furniture.

With more than half a century of experience, J+D Brauner still strives to deliver solid quality and solid value in all they create.

It’s Not “Just Design” — It’s Your Home

Translating personality into a specific design aesthetic is one of the tenets Robyn Baumgarten utilizes to create rooms balancing client taste and budget. By truly understanding her client’s design desires, she’s able to create rooms that aren’t simply showplaces; they’re livable works of art.

“A good designer needs to get into their client’s head and anticipate exactly what they will like, even if they don’t know it at the time,” says Baumgarten. Her company, Interiors by Just Design, specializes in creating spaces reflective of the individual. It’s that chameleon-like ability to create unique spaces that seamlessly mesh with a client’s persona that helps Baumgarten exceed client expectations.

An indefatigable talent, Baumgarten also brings unyielding passion and perfectionism to every project. That means she isn’t satisfied until every nuance of a project meets her strict standards. Whether it’s a kitchen, bathroom or any other room in the house, Interiors by Just Design has creative design solutions to make that room or home distinct.

“Having good design is crucial to good mental health, so it’s important to create a living space reflective of the people that live there,” says Baumgarten. “We create homes people are proud to live in.”

When a company has been in business for 70 years, it’s a pretty safe bet that they know how to treat their customers right. That’s what keeps discerning clientele returning to Showcase Kitchens — and recommending the upscale kitchen-and-bath center to everyone they know.

“Ninety percent of our business comes from customer referrals,” says John Starck Jr., who runs the family-owned business with his father, John Sr., and his brother, Anthony. Quaint Shop Holds Unique Surprises for the Home

Joan Stadt Interiors looks like a quaint shop that has been around for 25 years, long enough to be catering to the second generation of her first clients. Large window displays give passersby a hint of the eclectic furnishings inside — a surprise when they enter.

A high tin ceiling takes customers back to an earlier era. A Rockville Centre resident for 40 years, Joan has one of the oldest shops in town. But the selection of antiques, furniture, window treatments, fabric and other accessories is such that Joan can design a client’s home in any style — from traditional to transitional to
contemporary.

“Clients are attracted to the mix of home furnishings and unique pieces. Most customers don’t want to stick to one period. They enjoy a surprise,” she says. Joan is expert at combining old and new pieces, and mixing styles.

One couple hired Joan to decorate a huge apartment, after selling their large home. “They went away for the winter and gave us carte blanche,” she adds. Joan combined their favorite antiques with new pieces and decorated the home with their hobbies — card-playing and reading — in mind. “They were thrilled.” As a result, they recommended the firm to friends and new clients were retained.
