Luxurious
Landscapes
With Long Island’s temperate climate, it’s possible to enjoy a long season of outdoor living. Imagine a summer filled with sensational meals cooked in your own outdoor kitchen and shared with family and friends beside the pool or in the midst of a
fragrant garden. Or consider the benefits of adding water features such as fountains, waterfalls, ponds and streams, which can bring the relaxing sounds of running water to your backyard retreat. Whether you’re in need of landscape design for a new home or planning to update an existing property, the professional resources you’ll find in the following pages are a great place to start.
Landscape to Reflect Your Lifestyle
The luxuriant beauty of a vine-covered wall, the energy of a woodland walk opening before you – such are the details that lead to a personal and unique design for your landscape. Brenda Barclay of Classic Lines Landscape Design and Estate Management turns clients’ dreams and memories into cherished landscapes.
What matters most in developing a unique design is not only the knowledge of trees, shrubs and perennials, but also knowing how to manipulate these materials to create gardens that flow through interesting spaces supported by evergreens, blooming trees and pillars of shrubs that bloom sequentially throughout the season. Terraces opening to great lawns, a distant arbor backed by a grand weeping willow, visions of whatever your dreams hold.
Your landscape design can include sunken gardens, grass gardens, knot gardens or culinary gardens as well as ponds, tennis courts and swimming pools. Brenda Barclay earned undergraduate degrees in ornamental horticulture and landscape design and a master’s degree in landscape architecture, and worked with a major landscape architecture firm before starting her own business 16 years ago. She will meet with you to discuss and then finalize a design transforming your property into a unique statement of your lifestyle and experiences.

Superior Quality in Pavers
and Retaining Walls
Superior quality, consistency and selection are hallmarks of CST Mono-Cast™ Paving Stones and VERSA-LOK® Retaining Walls by Concrete Stone & Tile Corp. One of the first facilities in the Northeast to manufacture concrete paving stones, and in business since 1984, CST is family-owned, with a long-standing corporate mission based on maintaining customer satisfaction.
CST offers a consistent product line, sophisticated colors and a range of styles for any project from a simple walkway to an elegant pool-side patio. With pool season coming, CST Mono-Cast™ pavers and BullNose paver edging are both attractive and, unlike poured concrete, easily removed if the pool area needs extensive work. CST’s Mono-Cast™ pavers feature premium color and strength all the way through instead of a thin topcoat of color like some other pavers.
VERSA-LOK® Retaining Walls come in six colors and two finishes: standard and weathered. Visit CST’s website and enter your Zip code to find the dealer nearest you. Among CST dealers on Long Island are Jos. M. Troffa Landscape and Mason Supply in East Setauket; All Island Mason Supply in Kings Park; Stevens Stone and Brick in Coram; Barrasso & Sons in Islip Terrace and Venezia Garden Center in Mineola.

The Art
Is in the Details
“I’m a perfectionist,” says Eric Hagenbruch of Finesse Landscape Design. He’s also an artist, and his palette is the living garden.
Every Finesse landscape is a unique work of art. Colors and textures complement each other. Grasses and bamboo create movement and gentle sound. There’s a natural, flowing look unlike any other.
Hagenbruch’s designs may incorporate tropical and exotic plants such as banana trees and ginger, natural rocks and mosses, water designs and much more.
“I listen carefully to the client,” he says. “I want to give them exactly what they want, but I also want to help them find the best look for their space.”
Finesse is a company that is devoted to detail. They come back several times a year to tend to the gardens they’ve planted, including natural pruning, so the plants don’t lose their natural luster.
“It takes a lot of time to do natural pruning properly, but when you do, the plant will be healthy and last a lifetime,” Hagenbruch says.
He is always on site, and doesn’t leave until every detail is attended to. “We don’t take any shortcuts,” he adds, “because you can’t when you’re creating a work of art.”
